The background image of the website is of an eerily beautiful pond in the Franconia Range of the White Mountains in northern New Hampshire on the edge of the Pemigewassett Wilderness. I took this photo while backpacking through a couple of years ago. I ended up spending the night in my tent near the pond.
I was hiking with a friend and we arrived at the unofficial campsite near Garfield Pond just before dark. It rained during the night and the morning was very overcast and drizzly as you can see from the picture. I think it adds an eerie quality to it, but in a good way.
It was a beautiful place and one of my favorite hikes even with the crazy weather. There was ice on the summit of Mount Garfield when we reached it later that morning.
